Running/Sprinting with past retinal problems

I am legally blind in one eye (from birth) and had a Retinal Detachment in that eye 14 years ago. My "good" eye is 20/20 only with a - 7.75 prescription. I have had 6 retinal tears in my good eye (5 in 1997-98 and 1 in 2007). I swim, stationary bike and weight lift on a regular basis, but gave up running 13 years ago for fear of more retinal tears and possible detachments in my one good eye. Recently, I have read that jogging/running/sprinting does not significantly increase risk for retinal detachments or tears...is this true? I would love to get back into running and compete in a triathlon.

If think it's safe for you to partcipate in non contact sports (triathelons). You should were shatter proof eyewear to protect your only good eye. You should also be seen by a ophthalmologist who specializes in the Retina on a regular basis. Good luck.
