SCARRING OF THE RETINA
Is having scarring in the back of the retina a common problem? Is surgery to make a correction dangerous? How could the scarring occur?
You would need to have a highly trained ophthalmologist look into your eyes to determine if your problem could be helped. Hopefully, given your history of eye problems, you have access to an eye MD ophthalmologist. You should discuss your problem with that person and see if there is some specialized ophthalmology center you could be referred to for state of the art treatment. The same center could evaluate your amlyopic RE and see if anything could be done to help it also.
I developed an infection behind my left eye, which has left some scar tissue in my focus area. as I have limited vision in my right eye because of a lazy eye at birth, it has been very difficult to function properly. I manage but some days it is very difficult. what would be the best way to proceed in order to recover my vision. is there any chance of recovery or is there any way to get the right eye to develop properly. it has limited vision
The ultrasound scans would not cause a problem. If the scar is in the peripheral retina it might not affect the vision at all. Discuss with they ophthalmologists that have examined the eye.

As a generalization a full thickness macular hole causing legal blindness cannot be fixed to make vision normal. If your central vision improved to 20/100 even 20/f200 that would generally be a good result.
THe most important thing is to protect your remaining eye from another injury or eye disease of diseases caused by unhealthy living. You need to wear protective glasses and consider giving up contact and racquet sports and avoid activities with possibility of eye injury. Don't start smoking nicotine or cannabis, eat a good diet, don't get obese, exercise, see an ophthalmologist at least yearly the rest of your life

My daughter has a scar in her eye due to infection not treated properly and in time by a practice. She is still getting treatment and I don't know how the scarring will be left. The dr said there would be scar left. Is there any chance that she could not have a scar at all and the meds could take it all off or because he said there will be scarring there will?
Hey i am 16 years old and i got hit with a baseball in my left eye and now i have a full thickness macular hole and retinal scaring. If i get the hole fixed will i still be legally blind?
My father when he was 14 years of age was hit by a stone in the lower corner of his right eye. As someone was playfully throwing stones from top of the hill, a stone hit his eye when he looked upward trying to stop it. A lot of bleeding happened and he was rushed to the hospital for a treatment.
That incident damaged his eye and as a result his right eye vision was distorted. The affect was that the objects viewed from the right eye seemed out of shape, such that a square would look like a 8% standing rectangular shaped object.

I'm not sure what your doctor meant by 'blood clot.' In general there can be bleeding in the back of the eye in the blood vessels underneath the retina itself, or there can be blood clots in the arteries feeding blood to the retina or optic nerve, or the veins leading away from those areas.
A third kind of bleeding in the rear of the eye that can impair vision is bleeding into the vitreous jelly in front of the retina; the vitreous doesn't have blood vessels but blood can leak into this part of the eye from a retina detachment or other source.
If you had bleeding in a blood vessel right under the retina, then there isn't any treatment for this that I know of especially if the bleeding was in the center part of your retina (the macula). Bleeding way off to the side is sometimes sealed with a laser, but it permanently impairs vision where the laser blasts the retina (which is why it's only done if the bleeding is away from the central vision area).
If you have an active bleeding event in the retina, there are anti-VEGF injections (drugs such as Avastin or Lucentis) which are used to stop the bleeding if it's actively happening. If it's an 'old' bleeding incident that left a scar on the central retina, I don't know if anything that can be done now. Sometimes vision improves after a bleeding event as part of the blood clears or related swelling and fluid dissipates, but it can leave behind permanent damage.
I had a bleeding event under the retina and had scarring from it. By the time I got in to see an ophthalmologist the bleeding had stopped, so no injection was done. The doctor explained to me that the blood seeps up into the many layers of the retina and damages the very sensitive retina structures which translate the light entering your eye into images that are carried to your brain by the optic nerve. It's termed a 'scar' but it's not necessarily like a scar on your skin's surface; it's more like a patch of damaged retina tissue where the leaking blood cells damaged that area of the retina where the bleeding happened.
In my case there was improvement in distortion of straight lines that was pretty severe right after the bleeding problem, but I still have permanent loss of contrast and color sensitivity as well as some blurring.
You should be sure to return to the doctor immediately if you notice any sudden change in your vision. Also, please see an ophthalmologist who is a retina specialist at least once a year so your vision can be monitored carefully. With a prior injury and visual impairment you will want to stay on top of any future problems so you can catch them early. good luck!

I had an injury in my left eye in 2002 which led blood clot in the eye.
had treatment for the same for more than year.
Initially I was not able to see anything but later I had vision through left eye but I am able to read anything during eye testing my vision in left in 6/60.
Doctors say it is Le macular scarring .

I too have the same ailment. I reckon we both tried to focus in on the solar eclipse circa the late 1960's. I have found there is no treatment for this malady. It always seems to me the vision in my right eye is similar to coming from a bright day into a darker place, as if the vision is more like a photograph than a real image, with no 3d effect and dark.I have noticed that my vision is a bit more reliable in a low light situation, for what it's worth.
Due to foreign object strike in my right eye i got my retina damaged or scarred, my doctors from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science Chandigarh have done 3 surgeries with silicon oil to attach the detached retina, but no success, i have no vision in right eye, is there any way it can be fixed ?

I had the crystalens implanted in both my eyes 3 months ago and my vision is horrible. Halos, blurred vision, can't see far. I live in the Seattle area. Does anyone know doctors who specialize in this problem in my area?
My dad has retinal scarring. It started in his left eye a couple of years ago, and is now in his right eye. The opthmalogist said they do not know the reason for the scarring. I am a 29 yr old female and when I was in in grade 7 my vision in my left eye started going blurry and by grade 8 it was completely blind. After countless specialist appt they told me there was tons of scaring on my retina that they think was caused by a parasite getting in!!! I was told my vision in that eye will never come back. I have lived with this for so long now it is just normal to me now but my right eye is starting to get strained/ tired easily now As I get older. I have not been back to a specialist in years and was wondering if there are any new things that can be done to help or even bring back my sight? Thx!
I have multiple sclerosis & I have had optic neuritis in the past. Right now my Optic Nerve is fine but "pale" as the dr. put it. He did however tell me that I have "unknown" scarring on my retina. He mentioned a possible plasmosis but stated unknown scaring. I am going to a specialist soon but does anyone know what this sounds like?

My 3 yr old daughter has been diagnosed with this problem, and they say she has no chance of regaining her sight in her right eye due to the scarring, yet you can see with the help of glasses? So maybe glasses would help her?

I have been recovering from a freak accident where a forein object was 3 inches into my head just below my left eye. Im lucky to be alice and still have my eye. I had ocular plastic surgery and was give implants of a new orbital floor and rim because both were blown out. My only problem now is dealing with retinal and macular hemmorages (im a terrible speller). The hemmorages have been clearin and my vision improved from 20/400 to 20/200, it was 20/20 before the trauma (I am almost 4 weeks post trauma). I turned 18 in an induced coma a day after the accident. I am concerned about scar tissue in my retina after the blood clears. Do you think I have any chance of full recovery or will there be any breakthroughs in retinal treatment in the neasr future? Also, do you have any reccomondations for every day lifestyle that can improve vision such as diets w. lutien. Your opinion is well appretiated.

My son is an MMA fighter. He was told by his eye dr that he has a retinal scar and if he continues to fight, he could go blind with just one hard blow to the head and/or eye area.
Is there any type of surgery that can be done to remove the scar and make it possible for him to continue fighting? If yes, what would be the name of the surgery for which I would ask my doctor to consider.
