Scarring of the retina/macular scarring

Hello!

I was born with Terson syndrome (hemmorage in the eye) as a result of complications during birth. I had a vitrectomy at six weeks old at John Hopkins, but my scarring was/is so bad that I'm still legally blind in that eye. My local retina specialist says that scar tissue is my problem and it covers a lot of my retina. I've recently taken a look at my medical records from my retina specialist. It says something about macular scarring as well. Well, he says there's nothing out there that can help me gain vision in that eye. This never bothered me except for when my bad eye drifts outward until now. I'm currently -attempting- to learn how to drive and seeing as my bad eye is the right one, I can't see where I am on the road.

In turn, my family is trying to get opinions this summer at some leading optical and retinal specializing places as to if there may be some way I can regain sight (that I technically never had) in my eye.

Does anyone have a similiar problem to mine? (I know it's probably pretty rare) Do any of you doctors know of something I can have done? Or can anyone point me in the direction of someone who may be able to help?

Thank you.

sir there is no research going or no technology if the scar is deep inside or retinna can't be changed. Sir you people are not trying to get the result or making any research for the patitients who have injury inside the macula.

It depends on where the scar is and how deep it is.  Only a real life examination by a retina specialist Ophthalmologist can tell if you can be helped. If the scar is not deep and on the surface of the macula it can often be "peeled off" but if it is deep it has permanently damaged the sight receptors and cannot be removed.   Try to get to a retina ophthalmologist.

Sir,
I had severe injury inside the left eye due to dispersion of battery. The injury caused scars inside the macula due to which i cann't see clearly through left eye and my vision is reduced. Sir I want to know is there any way to remove these scars so that my vision gets increased or any research is going for the removal of scars inside the macula. Please kindly do let me know if there is any way. I shall be very greatful to you for this act of kndness.

It is highly unlikely that any surgery or treatment done anywhere will restore vision to the eye. The macula is the central part of the retina used for reading so "retina scaring" can include macular scarring also.

You would do well to concentrate on saving your "good" eye from disease and injury. You should be wearing protective glasses all times, practicing eye safety hygeine, wearing safety goggles if you do anything (mow, weedeater, power tools, etc) and lead a healthy lifestyle (don't smoke, keep your weight down, eat good diet, don't abuse alcohol, exercise) and see a eye MD yearly.

People with only one eye or who go blind in one eye generally are okay driving. It's likely your problem is more related to lack of driving skills than having good vision only in one eye.
