Scleral Buckle - 4 years later

I had scleral buckle surgery in Jan 2007.  All I think is well.  Today I happened to notice that the veins/tissue covering the buckle are blue.  I don't know how long it's been like that because I don't look at the buckle everyday - I just saw it when I turned my eye a little.  Is this normal?  I've never seen that before - the veins and tissues are always pink.  Thanks.

Can I ask where you are located?

I have spent the last 15yrs overseas in various locations and know of several very good eye doctors in the different countries I have lived.

I also had a localized buckle placed in my right eye after my first retinal detachment. After about 18-months I too had problems and it was replaced with a full scleral band. That has been in place now for almost 10-years without problem.

I had a scleral buckle implanted after my retina detached. It is 5 years post op and I am experiencing more redness and tenderness in the eye. I do not see any changes to the shape of my eye, or the buckle, itself. I am concerned that the increased redness and tenderess means something more. To top it off, I am not in the United States at the moment and do not have access to top noch eye care here. I work in front of a computer all day and it does get some relief when I cover it and let it rest. What could my symtoms mean?

buckles can start to cause problems like forming cysts or eroding into the eye or through the outer covering of the eye. Suggest you see your ophthalmologist for a look at it.

I should clarify that I can see the buckle because it's towards the bottom/back of my eye.  Normally through the pink tissue I can see the white shade of the buckle.  However now it looks blue.
