Second capsulotomy for glare

by andercom, Nov 08, 2009 12:13PM
I had cataract surgery in my left eye on July 14, 2009.  Due do capsular wrinkling, I had a YAG laser capsulotomy on August 5, 2009.  I had pronounced glare at night, so on November 5, 2009, I had a second capsulotomy (the YAG opening was enlarged).  The glare condition has not improved (today is November 8, 2009).  Can anyone suggest how long it takes for an improvement in the glare condition to be noticeable?

Usually right away.  Some things to consider.  Do you need glasses?   Are your pupils large?    A refractive error and large pupils can also cause glare.

I saw my surgeon today and his assistant gave me a new distance prescription for the left eye -- it had not been updated after the cataract operation and the subseuqnet capsulotomies.  The old Rx was -0.75 -0.75 axis100.  The new prescription is -1.00 -.50 axis 78.  I had the new prescription filled, and, unfortunately, it did not reduce the glare.

My surgeon told me that my pupil diameter is 4.0 mm.

Dr. Sandra Brown posted an answer on the "Expert Forum" to the same question I asked you.  She indicated that "If you had a monofocal lens implant, then the glare may gradually improve as the remaining rim of capsule becomes more opaque and blocks the scattered "glare light" from reaching your retina."  (I had a monofocal lens implant.)

Perhaps you would like to review her posting and my reply.  Do you think that 4,0 mm pupil diameter is problematic for glare?  I'm also curious to know if the design of the AcrySof MA60 6.0 mm lens is more likely than other designs to produce glare.

Thank you again for your assistance.
