See an Opthalmologist?

(I know this isn't pediatric opthalmology, but I couldn't find an appropriate category)
Nearly 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with post-concussive syndrome after an auto accident.  Since then, I have had progressively worsening chronic migraine headaches which are currently under better control with preventives.  Immediately following the accident, I began to notice blurred vision in my right eye.  This is the same eye which is most affected by headaches, with pain directly behind it and partial loss of visual field pre-headache.  Blurring also occurs independent of headaches for hours to days at a time, most noticeable when reading, but also vague visual disturbance at distance.  Within the past 6 months, I have developed additional symptoms of muscle twitching, cramping and pain leading my neurologist to suspect MS.  MRI and evoked potentials including VEP were normal, pretty much ruling MS out.  With neurologist already checking for signs of optic neuritis, would it still be beneficial to see an opthalmologist, or would an optometrist suffice for vision correction?

It is unlikely that but possible that your eye symptoms are related to optic neuritis.  The symptoms you describe before your headaches are classic for migraines.  The independent episodes of blurred vision may be related to a large number of possibilities including the need for glasses or maybe dry eye syndrome.  I most definitely would recommend complete ophthalmic evaluation by an ophthalmologist along with a computerized visual field test.  I hope that this is helpful.
