I already had a posterior vitreous detachment in this eye about two years ago at which time I experienced the classic flashes and floaters. Vision cleared after that, except for a large floater, but now these new symptoms started, ie seeing silvery flash when blinking what looks kind of like vessels, and the many silvery little speckles when looking at a lite background. I did see my retina specialist tow weeks ago and he said the retina looked fine but I am still having these symptoms all day and daily.
It is possible that you are undergoing the normal process of posterior vitreous detachment, which occurs with age. You are a bit young for this, but if you are myopic (nearsighted), it may be occurring at an earlier age. There is nothing you can do to stop the process. 90% of the time, the vitreous will separate from the peripheral retina without causing a problem; 10% of the time a retinal tear will occur. Symptoms of the retinal tear may include flashes of light peripherally like lightning, and the sudden onset of many new floaters, like bugs or cobwebs. If you have any of these symptoms, you must see your retina specialist immediately.
