Seeing "stars" moving around along with floaters

I've had this problem for a few years now. I started noticing the floaters after a trip to China a few years ago. I went to my GP and the opticians for an eye test. I was told the floaters were normal, and I had a retinal exam (with those eye drops that dilate the pupils) and I was told everything was fine. However, I see these strange red/blue/green dots that move around my field of vision all the time. It is slightly worse in the dark, on a bright day in the sky or against some other bright background (like white paper). It is in both eyes. My doctor told me that they were caused because my eyes shape is still changing/growing since I was only about 13 at the time (I am 16 now.)
He also said that the floaters were probably caused by the migraines that I've had in the past; I've had about 5 that I can remember.

Any other possibilities?

The symptoms have pretty much been the same since when I first noticed, I don't think I've noticed the floaters or the dots get any better or worse.

Also, I was told I have astigmatism(s?) but it wasn't enough of a problem for me to need a prescription. I don't know if this really relates to the problem, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
