In Mass start with Mass Eye and Ear, Schepens, and NEEC. Here are their retinal pages (Make sure to get an appt with an MD (not a fellow) as you call these practices:
New England Eye Center (part of Tufts): http://www.neec.com/Pages/Services/Vitreoretinal/Vitreoretinal_Disease.php - I've seen Dr. Duker there, and he is outstanding. I would make sure to try and get an appt with him if possible. But there may be someone better for infants so ask when calling.
Schepens: http://www.schepens.com/ - I've not seen a doctor here, but their reputation is excellent
Mass Eye and Ear: http://www.meei.harvard.edu/search/display_dis.php?&disease=retinal%20diseases&iRadio=OPHTH - I've seen Dr. Miller there, and she is very good. But there may be someone better for infants so ask when calling.
In Phil Wills Eye Hospital is http://www.willseye.org/patients/services/retina/
I've not seen any doctor there, but the reputation is excellent.
Good luck, let me know if I can be of additional help.

if you are willing to travel to NJ Dr Francis Cangemi is a retinal specialist. he did my 1st detached retina when i was 12 (i am 34) and the other one in 2006. he is not only an amazing dr but has terrific bedside manor! he is in Belleville NJ. i also have a 6 mo old and i know that i would travel anywhere. 973-751-8808. margie works with him and shes a sweet lady
The pediatrician and obstetrician do an external exam but not an internal eye exam. Many problems present at birth don't show up with a birth exam. The most common cause of these problems is not doctors, hospitals or birth injury but problems with the development in the uterus (like cleft lips and palates and club feet).

Dr. Hagan,
When a baby is born, the hospital does a thorough check on the baby, correct? If so, why wasn't this problem detected in the hospital? Could this problem be caused by the hopital itself? Is it possible that my baby was injured somehow after she was born in the hospital? Because, soon after she was brought home, I noticed the swelling of the eye & little bit of abnormality... I want to know the truth!
Please advise the possible cause of this problem. Thank you.
Cindy
Can you advise me on the hospital in MASS & in PHILADELPHIA? I want to check both hospitals... Thanks.
Cindy
I believe the correct URL is:
http://www.schepens.com/
The harvard URL is for their research arm only, not clinical patients.
If you do come up to boston mass eye and ear, and new england eye center are also excellent (mass eye and ear in particular would probably be a great place for an evaluation of an infant).
Good luck.

Schepens is world famous
In New York the Manhattan eye and Ear Infirmary is also excellent

NY Eye and Ear has some excellent doctors. I would start there. I don't know specific physicians but hopefully somewhere here can chime in.
If you have the insurance flexibilty and feel the need for additional opinions there are some excellent options in Boston and Philadelphia as well. I would be glad to direct you to Boston area options if that is an option.
Good luck and god bless you and your family.
I live in Queens, NY... Can you recommend us the best doctor & hospital for this?
Where do you live?
The prognosis is not good.
