Selecting between two surgeon recommendations

Selecting between two surgeon recommendations

I have two good candidates to select from for a cataract surgeon.   They both have websites and they seem to list preferences for lens replacement technologies.   I was wondering if I should go to both doctors to see what they recommend and then do my selection - or if there was some other good approach for doing a selection?   From my research on lens technology it seems like a Tecnis 1-piece lens might be a good choice - but only one of the doctor's websites list Tecnis lenses.   Should I select that doctor for my procedure?    I've looked for websites that rate doctors and both have good ratings, but each doctor has less than 4 ratings so I'm not sure I can pick a doctor based on so few ratings.   I'd appreciate any input on how to select.   Thanks.

You can not select a physician by their website or the lenses they use.  Get a few recommendations from friends.  See a few surgeons then decide.

It helps to have some basic knowledge about cataract surgery before your appointment(s).  If you already know that you want monofocal lenses, how do you want the lenses set (best distance vision? mini-monovision?)  Do you have astigmatism, which could be corrected at the time of surgery?  If your insurance allows it, I'd recommend setting up consultations with both surgeons to get their recommendations as well as answers to your questions.  You might also want to know where the surgery will take place and what type of anesthesia/sedation will be used.  Choose the surgeon you feel most comfortable with.  IMO, there are several excellent aspheric monofocal IOLs available, and your choice of surgeon is far more important than which IOL is used.  (I assume that both of your candidates are board-certified and experienced.)

Thanks for the useful feedback.   I believe the two surgeons I have selected are both highly qualified, board certified, and with many years of experience.   I just wasn't sure if the surgeons normally expected that you would be seeing other surgeons to get opinions as well.  My insurer indicated that they would pay for consultations from several doctors.  I am still researching monofocal  lenses vs other types.  The one monofocal lens that seems to get good reports is the Tecnis 1-piece.   If you have suggestions for other monofocal lenses I should consider, please let me know.   Thanks.
