Severe myopia for my child

by Jawa38, Jul 21, 2008 01:55PM
I am India my only daughter aged 5 years having severe myopia from the age of 2. We consult various pediatric opthomology in our city and confirmed as -17 in both eyes. The vision power is constant for the past 4 years. Also have some retina problem. But the Doctor doesnot told in detail. She is wearing glasses regularly from the age of 2. Now my question is wheather she will get improved vision in growing or power may go worsen. Any treatment at this age to correct the vision.

Because myopia is caused by the eye being too long and the eye doesn't get shorter as she gets older high myopia does not go away nor improve as the child grows. Often as the child grows the eye grows with her and gets more mypopic.  When she is older she will see bettter with contact lens than glasses. She needs to be under the care of an eye MD ophthalmologist and have an annual dilated retina exam to look for retinal and macular problems associated with high myopia.
