Severe myopia

Having read messages concerning myopia of -5 or -6 I am wondering what my long-term problems will be with -8.5 and -10.75, I have already read articles that seem to imply blindness can be expected. Currently I have OK vision with contact lenses and glasses but suffer severely from floaters particularly in the worst eye. Should I be doing anything to protect the future health of my eyes?

first of all blindness is unlikely!!! while it is true that u are at a higher risk for retinal detachments then someone with only mild or no nearsightedness, the chances are u will do fine. what you should do to insure this is have a yearly exam by an ophthalmologist. i would also look into laser vision correction. though that will not change your retinal detachment chances.If you are interested we would love to see you here at Henry Ford Eye Care Services.  Simply call 1-800-363-7575 for an appointment.
