Should I undergo Lasik?

Should I undergo Lasik?

I'm 36 years old women with myopia since I was 15 years old. I recently have decided to do Lasik operation to correct my vision. Yesterday when I visited my doctor, he told me that I could do operation but when I become 40 years old I will be farsighted (Hyperopia). I also read that some people are more suitible to cataract when they do Lasik. I don't know what to do? Should I do lasik or it's better for me to forget about it. Thank you

Are you sure your physician didn't say presbyopia?  Essentially everyone encounters this as they age, someitmes as early as their late 30's.

Presbyopia means that your natural lenses become less flexible and no longer able to easily focus on near objects.  Myopes (like you and me) can usually focus on near objects even after we become presbyopic, but people with normal vision will generally require reading glasses.

LASIK would correct your myopia, but then when you start to develop presbyopia you will no doubt be in the situaion of needing reading glasses.

I'm not aware that LASIK increases the possibility of developing cataracts -- I'm sure one of the forum doctors will comment on that -- but I do know that once cataracts occur it becomes a little more difficult to compute the power required for the intraocular lenses that would be needed.

The term for farsightedness is hyperopia.
