Small black dot in left eye's peripheral version

Hi, yesterday a small black dot showed up in my vision yesterday.   It is small and black, and in the very bottom left corner of my left eye.   I don't really see it when I'm just sitting still, but if I shake my dead, or get up and walk, I notice it (especially against a white background, like a my walls, or the tile in the bathroom)    It doesn't really "Flash" but it sort of fades quickly in and out of my vision.  I do not have any other floaters, or anything of that nature.    The eye also feels sore but that might be in my head,  The mark sort of looks like a crack coming up frmo the corner of my eye.   I have an appointment to get it inspected on tuesday, (4 days), but I am worried to wait that long.   Does this sound like it could be retinal tearing / detachment in any ay?

Dear theaero,

I would recommend that you be seen urgently for the black spot you describe.  It may represent a retinal issue which if untreated, could progress.

It sounds like a floater and I think it is a good idea to be seen on Tuesday.  There is a fairly small chance (about 5%) that you could have a small retina tear or detachment and that will be determined then.  Please avoid strenuous activity and strenous or repetive bending over as this will cause the most movement of the vitreous.  Call your doctor if you develop any new flashes or changes in vision.
