Sparkling, Not Blue Field Entoptic Phenomenon?

by cabinman, Jul 23, 2009 08:03AM
I have been getting a progressively worse sparkling in my eyes for the last 2 months. I've been to neuro's and a neuro-opthamologist and it is not a migraine. I have floaters in both eyes, and this is definitely a separate issue from the floaters. I can look & keep my eye stable and see my floaters falling, but this sparkling zips and pops in all areas of my vision and moves up, sideways, etc...

I do not get the sparkling in my eyes when it's dark (not visual snow) but I do get it in bright backgrounds. If I open my eyes and look at a white, tan, or even a cloudy/rainy sky I see the sparkling, at any time. The sparkles pop & move a little bit and the longer I stare, the worse and more apparent it comes. It happens in both eyes.

Is there anything else this could be other than BFEP? I have read that BFEP is really only visible against blue backgrounds due to the wavelength of blue light passing through the capillaries in front of your retina, which is why I am looking to see if it is something else.

Is there anything else this could be? Any neurological issues that could cause this?

Since you have had an extensive work up I would think the thing to do is try and put it out of your mind unless something changes or new develops. Yes it could be an entopic phenomena

This sounds like BFEP too me. It can be seen on many different backgrounds by an exeprienced eye obsessor...like me. I can see it on grey, off-white, yellow etc if I focus hard enough. It appears as sparkles if you are not able to follow the cells movements quickly enough.
