Stationary objects appear to be moving

For 5 months now my 18 year old daughter has had visual disturbances that are severly affecting her, she also has dizziness at times. She sees stationary objects in motion, she says they seem to "teeter" up and down like a see-saw.  This vision issue never stops it continues 24/7.  She says when she drives and everything is in motion she doesnt notice the disturbance.  She has seen a Neurologist who ran a EEG, and MRI.  The MRI has a small spot in the temporal lobe area that is undiagnosed ; however, the Neuro-surgeon says it would not cause the vision issues.  MRI is being repeated to see if any growth.  She has seen a ENT and had all of the inner ear testing, everything was fine.  We saw a Medical eye doctor (Opthalmologist?) who says everything is OK.  We have been to a cardiologist who ran a tilt table test, holter monitor, and heart echo ultrasound , all were fine.  I do not know what to do for her next or what physician to see.  Everything has been unremarkable and the issues persist.  She has been overall a healthy child, the only thing I can correlate to the change is health is a Gardisil shot over Thanksgiving (issues started the first week or so in December).  Could a vaccine cause this?  If so how should it be treated?  Where do I go from here for diagnosis/treatment?  Please help.

It is unlikely you'll be reading this but it may help someone else. I have very similar visual symptoms and they're associated with Menieres disease.

I have the exact same problem, though with me, I also experience countless floaters, blotches of all colours and shades, as well as a constant need to refocus. I'm seen optometrists, ophthalmologists, neurologists, had multiple MRIs, none of which reached a conclusive answer.

Regarding your daughter, does she suffer from the likes of chronic fatigue, headaches and migraines, abnormal heart rate or blood pressure (Those symptoms are some of many)? If so, I would highly recommend looking into a condition called 'Dysautonomia', AKA a dysfunctional autonomic system.

It is often misdiagnosed as anxiety or depression. It's quite unheard of from most doctors, but there are some really good doctors out there that have studied this rare condition. It usually develops at one or both of two times: in teenage years or 40+. If in teenage years, it's not uncommon for symptoms to disappear in the early-mid 20s. Though it has been known to return at middle age. For example, I developed dysautonomia when I was 18 and in my final year of high school.

I would highly recommend looking into this condition, especially if she fits one or more of the symptoms I stated above. You can learn more at www.dysautonomiainternational.org/page.php?ID=34.

Good luck with your daughter, and I hope she's more successful in finding conclusive answers than I've been thus far; I know how stressful it is for visual disturbances constantly hanging about 24/7. All the best for the both of you.

The dysautonomia suggestion was helpful to me. I've often wondered if it was something more on the cellular level. I also suffer from optical illusions such as things that appear to wave, shake, go brighter off and on like there's some sort of power surge, etc.

I also have musical ear syndrome, which may not be related. I'm also faced with a lot of things that seem to fall apart before they're supposed to, often hearing, "Wow, you're kind of young for (fill in the blank).." to which I usually reply, "Yeah. I know. My body is just an overachiever." lol

With so many weird things happening at random, coming and going or coming and staying, I had a thought of maybe a gene or cell malfunction which causes accelerated aging, or something to that effect.

Anyhow, when researching dysautonomia, I came across this and will do more research into it, but figured I should throw it out there in the meantime just in case it would be helpful to someone else.

Superior Canal Dehiscence is the correct answer to your question.  Had exactly the same thing for years.  They had to fill in my ear canal.  Your born with it and it just keeps getting worse.

Whatever seems to move, shine a black light or UV light on the item and see if it stops moving. If it does, it’s telemetry. You are being spied on and monitored.

I have what your daughter has seeing objects move. I have had ECGs  echo sound test, i get dizzy spells. I am on medication for different health problems and i feel its to do with the medication. If your daughter is on medication check the side effects as it could be one of them causing it. Also Anxiety has a lot to do with it, I get very anxious and have to be on medication to control it.  Its very disturbing but i do not think there is a cure for it except to check side effects of any tablets she takes and if it is one of them get her to ask doctor to take her off it and replace with something else,  Hope this helps.

I sincerely doubt you’ll actually read this since it’s been 10 years but I thought I should try. I’ve been having extremely similar issues like the one you mentioned for your daughter. I was wondering if you found anything else out about it? Has it resolved, did they find out what it was, is she doing okay? I’m 17 and also ironically live in Florida. This is the only post I’ve found online that is pretty similar to what I’ve been experiencing. I’m not going to go into details about what I’ve been experiencing because that would take forever, basically all that about things constantly moving in your vision, dizziness, anxiety etc I’ve had. Thank you so much if you’ve read this, it would be extremely helpful to know what’s happened in the last 10 years for your daughter... god that really sounds like a long time, I hope she’s doing alright! I also sent this to your inbox

22, also in Florida. While driving and looking at a mobile home’s roof while passing by, i saw the roof move up and down twice like a wave. Very distressing when you have no idea how to make reason of something like that. Sorry i have no help, just relating.

There has been no activity on this discussion thread in 3 years and you are unlikely to get a reply. I suggest you make a new post of the problem you son has

This same thing happens to me when I don't get enough sleep.. I'm almost positive you're either not getting enough sleep or possibly not enough actual REM sleep. I highly recommend a sleep study. If I stay up through the night by the next day I will see cables or wires moving even though they're obviously not. If I look at a spot on the wall in low light, it appears to be moving down or up the wall. It really freaked me out the first couple times until I realized it ONLY happens to me when I haven't slept enough(insomnia issues). Good luck.

Thank you for this information! There has been something wrong with me for 4 years now. I did end up having mastoiditis though, and the Doctor didn't remove everything, but my new ENT told me my symptoms were not from that even if the rest of the mastoid needs to be removed.

I am going to a new primary care facility, so I am going to ask him about this!
Thank you so much!

Suggest you see a neuro-ophthalmologist.

I neglected to add in the above post if you choose the first option have her see a psychiatrist.

You have several options.  One is that there may be a psychological-psychiatric basis. Lest you dismiss that quickly anxiety and  depression are "the great pretenders" and cause a huge expenditure of time and money excluding organic disease.

The other option is to keep digging. You live in Florida, the Bascome Palmer Eye Institute of the U of Miami is world famous. You can bundle her records and have her see the neuro-ophthalmologist there.

We have now went to a neuroopthalmologist and he found nothing.  We have also tried a Gynocologist to see if it was potentially hormonal, as the disturbance gets worse when she is angry or has been crying.  The gyno said it would not be related to hormones.  Please, if anyone has any suggestions we are willing to try anything at this point.  This is very trying for her.

Ask the ophthalmologist to refer her to the most respected neuroophthalmologist that she can get to.
