Steroid and intraocular pressure

by BUTTERCUP109, Apr 28, 2009 08:52PM
I am seeking to have a better understanding of the relationship of intraocular steroids ( Prednisolone eyedrops, intravitreous triamcinolone) and intraocular pressure. Do the steroids stimulate cell growth in the trabecular meshwork obstructing adequate fluid drainage? Is this the cause of transient increased eye pressure and therefore reason to believe that pressures will return to normal after steroids are stopped? Or...are other mechanisms involved? After IVT for CME two years ago, I had transient ocular hypertension.  My CME returned May 2008 and has been treated unsuccessfully with Avastin for a year. My doctor is reluctant to use IVT, but my experience two years ago was that IVT resolved my CME quickly and the eye pressures returned to normal within a few months.
