Steroid injection vs surgery for chalazion

Steroid injection vs surgery for chalazion

I've read that steroid injections cause skin discoloration which may be undesirable for dark skinned people. I have dark skin but if a steroid injection is a better option compared to surgery then I'm willing to risk the discoloration.

Thanks!

For my patients, I usually recommend 4 weeks worth of conservative management with warm compresses and eye drops to see if it will go away on its own.  If not, I incise and drain from an interior approach which leaves no scar and doesn't risk the discoloration with the steroids.  Steroids frequently don't work either and risk problems.  I would consult with an ophthalmologist/eye MD in your area for treatment and not other specialists.  I can not give you specific advice without a medical examination.
