Strabismus that is very painful

Strabismus that is very painful

Ryan, my son, has very a very painful problem with his eyes.  He was first diagnosed with esophoria, then proceeded to see three other doctors about his eyes.  Now he is diagnosed with strabismus after visiting a Boston opthamalogist/surgeon.  He wears prism glasses and they do not help at all.  He has had this problem for 10 years, and he is now 30.  Bilaterally, he has deep eye pain.  It feels best in the morning, and worst at night.  When he quits reading, the pain does not go away, it stays as intense as ever.  He has a Masters from Harvard and he suffered all the way through it, having his wife read to him much of the time.  He is applying to Phd programs, but wonders how he will be able to do it with the pain he has.

This discussion is related to eye pain caused by strabismus?.

I would suggest a fresh look from either a neuro-ophthalmologist or strabismus Eye MD. If it is his eyes and if the prisms are not helping then he may need to talk about strabismus surgery.
