Strabismus

I am 39 year old who has strabismus since birth,  At the age of 4 years old I had corrective surgery that did not correct the problem fully.  The left eye points outward and the right eye is dominant.  When I straighten the left eye the right goes out.  I consulted a pediatric opthamologist about then years ago who suggested surgery may not correct the problem.  I am hoping to inquire again since so much time has passed,  Do you think there may have been any progress with surgery since your last entry regarding this since May 2007?  Thank you.

No surgeon can guarentee that further surgery will cosmetically make your eyes perfectly straight and there is some risk of infection, bleeding, damage to eye, double vision and no improvment in the appearance. Most people at your age have come to peace with the situation.

If you haven't then see a second strabismus specialist to discuss your options.
