Stuggling to open my eyes after sleeping

For the last few nights I have been struggling to open my eyes when I wake up, if its in the middle of the night or in the morning. Both eyes wont open properly for a couple of minutes. I tried opening one of my eyes today with my finger and when I let go it shut again. I have been to the doctors today and they have said its an unusual case, they have given me eye drops, taken bloods and are sending me for an X-Ray. They have also said if it doesn't clear in a week then come back and they will refer me to a neurologist. Has anyone had any similar cases like this before? I'm 20 and I am generally quite fit, no medical problems.

Hi. Had this also about 6-12 months after eyesurgery (vitrectomy) after a retinal tear. It started suddenly, bought some gels that didn't help (tookthem before sleep). It vanished just like that although I seem to have started with fishoil. Unsure if this indeed is the reason why things returned to normal though. Don't worry too much but see your doctor I'd say. Good luck!

Fish oil by mouth (generally building up to 2 or 3/day) is proven treatment for dry eyes (also good for dry skin, dry mouth, dry hair, chapped lips, cracked feet)

1. Be sure you are seeing a Eye MD ophthalmologist.  2. They are probably working you up for myasthenia gravis; confirm this by talking to them. 3. If your blood work is negative its very unlikely this is MG.  4. This is a common complaint and often occurs due to eye drying out during sleep. Try putting a lubricating gel in your eyes at bedtime, they are over the counter and don't require prescription. Examples are Systane Gel, Refresh PM, Genteal gel  5. don't sleep under a fan while asllep.    Read this article about how drying of eye during sleep can cause your symptoms    http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/1648138/General-Information-About-Recurrent-Corneal-Erosions

If the lubricating gel takes care of the problem tell your eye MD. Also when you wake up put a drop of artificial tears (not a gel) in both eyes.
