Sun Eye Damage

Right so I am walking down the street with my buggy. My baby son is wearing a baseball cap but the sun is streaming directly into the buggy and he is looking to the side. I hung the blanket I had entirely over the front of the buggy. It just occurred to me though that the blanket has large stitches and lets in dappled sunlight. You can still see the sun I suppose through it, would this have caused eye damage if my son had watched the sun through the blanket? I was worried it may have made it easier for him to stare at the sun, albeit abstracted and caused his eyes problems?!
