Surgical Treatment for Acquired Third Nerve Palsey

Surgical Treatment for Acquired Third Nerve Palsey

As a child, I suffered a head injury, and developed third nerve palsy of my right eye. My pupils are different sizes, and my eyelid droops. I have migraines frequently, and the affected eye is lazy, it turns outward. I can control it if I am thinking about it and focusing, but for the most part, I only use my left eye. I was never treated with eye patches or any kind of therapy. I am now 22, and up to this point, have been told there is nothing surgical that can be done. I would like to find out if any surgery is available, whether that be to correct the entire problem, or the lazy eye itself.

It is very likely that there are surgical options that would make it easier for you to control your eye and keep it straight.  Go to www.aapos.org to find an Eye-MD who specializes in adult strabismus near you.  Once you get the eye straightened, additional surgery on the lid may level out the appearance.  Nothing will fix the pupil diameter permanently.
