Surgical options for bleeding behind the eye?

What are the options when there is bleeding behind the eye related to diabetic rentinopathy? Would cataract surgery make any difference?

Generally the options usually include laser treatment of some sort combined with glucose and blood pressure control.  Vitrectomy is sometimes needed for severe cases.  If the bleeding is mild there may be no treatment  other than careful observation and of course improving glucose control, exercise, stopping smoking and basically improving overall health.  Cataract surgery can sometimes cause some worsening of the bleeding if the retinopathy is not under excellent control, so a retinal specialist should be involved in the care around the time of surgery in most cases.
