Swollen Optic Nerve - One eye

I went to the eye doctor to get my vision checked for glasses.  She told me there was a problem with my left eye.  She took a picture with a big machine.  She showed me the pictures of both eyes.  She said my right eye was totally normal.  She said the left eye had a swollen nerve.  She is sending me to a specialist.  What could this be with only one eye affected?  I have afternoon headaches that I associated with allergies/ stress/ strain.  I have some "floaters" in my field of vision occasionally.  I was diagnosed with migraines 2 years ago.  I do have some high blood pressure but not excessive.  135/85.  I'm taking a diuretic for the blood pressure.  I am also hypothyroid and taking 120mg Armour thyroid for that.

There are many causes including thyroid disease.  You will need some tests to determine the cause.
