Swollen eye after massage

Swollen eye after massage

I have chronic neck/shoulder pain and went in for a massage today.  She had to get in pretty deep as my muscles were extremely tight and in spasm.  She had my lie on my stomach for about 10 minutes and when I stood up my right eye felt heavy.  I looked in the mirror and all around my right eye my lids were very puffy and swollen, the swelling went down towards my cheek bone.  It's been 6 hours and it's about 80% than it was, but still puffy.

It only happened to the right eye.  I do not have any itching associated with it, my eye itself is not red.  I used to work for cosmetic surgeons and it resembles the type of post surgery swelling our patients experienced.

I recently had my gallbladder out (2 months ago) and have been told that I am insulin resistant (if any of that matters).  I am 42 years old, in good health otherwise.

Thanks!

The pressure on your abdomen may have increased the venous pressure in your eye socket and causes fluid to leak into the tissues. If you have pain or decreased vision see an ophthalmologist. Otherwise you might just use warm compresses, and tell your massager not to repeat that maneuver
