Tearing eye after LASIK

by Mary__0__0, Mar 30, 1999 12:00AM

I had LASIK done about 4 months ago.  A couple weeks after surgery, I experienced an occurance of tearing in my right eye.  It lasted about two hours and it was as though I was crying.  The tearing never happened again until this week -- I've experienced it for three days now, on and off.  It lasts about an hour or two, stops and then returns if I catch wind in the eye or bend down.  Can this be a side effect of LASIK?  If so, does it have something to do with the flap being out of place?  Will this last forever?  -- it is quite bothersome.  I never had this problem until my surgery.   I plan to see my doctor in a couple weeks and will ask, but I thought that you could calm my nerves in the meantime.  Thanks.

mary-
on the one hand i will calm your nerves, chances are there is nothing seriously wrong.  that being said i would advise you to see your eye MD earlier rather then later because the tearing may be a sign of eye irritation, which could be caused from any number of things, such as dry eye to a foreign body sensation secondary to a corneal irregularity- though after 4 months i very much doubt that the flap is irregular.  good luck.
