Technis multifocal implant

Technis multifocal implant

Does anyone know that status of the multifocal Technis implant in the US? Has the FDA approved it? I had surgery in one eye approximately 4 years ago and had the Array multifocal implanted. I am displeased with the results. Halos are the biggest peril. Has anyone traveled to Europe to have the Technis multifocal implanted? Any information would be apperciated since I have a stage 3 cataract in the other eye and will not have the currently available implants implanted. Nancy

Regardless of the status of the Technis multifocal implant you would do well to ponder why you want a multifocal IOL when you have had so much trouble with the first one.  Most people in your situation would be far better off with a Technis Monofocal aspheric IOL.

The Technis implant is available in Toronto, Ontario.
I too thought I would have to travel either to the US or Europe for help with my condition.
A referral to a specialist from my eye surgeon seemed unattainable ... I won't bore you with my endeavors for help as I have many earlier postings on this sight.  Finally, after two years, I met with a high risk surgeon.
I had bilateral cataract surgery 2 years ago.  I have Alcon SA60AT iol's implanted.
Since both surgeries I have been unable to cope visually with various lighting conditions ... I have fairly recently been diagnosed with high order aberrations in my left eye and dysphotpsia in my right eye.
The left eye lens exchange with a Technis monofocal is scheduled for the  end of next month.  My left eye has been the most uncomfortable and results in daily headaches radiating deep into my temple.  My eyes ache frequently when exposed to lighting conditions .... night time driving is out as well as many other activities.  Sunglasses..sometimes two pair at once are now required.
I've been told that the Technis may correct the problem but should offer me some measure of comfort .   I appreciate the honesty in the use of 'may' and 'should' ... no guarantees ... that tempers my expectation. I have also had YAG on my left eye.
I am very nervous about this surgery as I have become very protetective of my left eye.
This surgeon also uses the block anaestetic (two injections temporally and upper cheekbone) . I would like to know more about these injections and perhaps my fears will be quelled.
You can google David S. Rootman to visit his websites ... I have researched him primarily through word of mouth .

You are proposing to have a second surgery on your eye, currently implanted with the Array mutifocal.  You wish to have a Tecnis multifocal implanted in its place, as well as implanting a Tecnis multifocal in your second eye.  You appear to be expecting that this will solve all the issues with halos.  I have bilateral Tecnis ZM900 multifocal IOLs.  I can assure you that this lens, while very acceptable, will not solve your issue with halos.

I've made a few posts regarding results with my Tecnis multifocal IOLs.  The last one is at:

I'm not sure if I fully understood your intention with your eye currently with the Array IOL.  If you are considering a second surgery on this eye, then I would recommend going the safe way and implanting an aspheric monofocal IOL (also Tecnis, as mentioned above by Dr. Hagen).  You then have very good odds of living without halos.
