Technis Multifocal paired with Crystalens HD

by TheHammer251, Jul 01, 2009 05:07PM
Has anyone any experience with this combination? Have cataract surgery and IOL implantation in 2 weeks  with the 2nd eye (dominent) two weeks later. The first eye will be Technis multifocal. I am a nurse anesthetist and almost all my work is in the "intermediate" range. I also read heavily. I am hoping to combine the Tecnis close capabilities with the Crystalens intermediate. Is this a good plan? Is the combination of an accomodating lens with a multifocal lens a good idea?
Thanks

I would suggest several things:

1. Use the search feature and read all the posts about trouble with multifocal IOLs. BE very sure you understand what you are getting into. Post op problems and disatisfaction is about 60 times more common with multifocal IOLs than monfocal.
2. Get a second opinion.
3. If you are like our anesthetists you have to drive in at night for emergency. Night vision is often a challenge with multifocal IOLs.
4. The Crystalens HD is relatively new (don't consider the old one) and the Technis multifocal extremely new. I have not seen any articles in medical journals about that combination.
