Ticking sound in eyes

Ticking sound in eyes

I have some odd ticking feelings in my eyes. It feels as if pressure is being released from my sinuses through my eye socket (I have had sinus symptoms for a while). I am nearsighted, and had worn the same pair of contacts for almost 3 weeks without taking them out more than a couple times (and I know I'm not supposed to wear them for that long). Just a few days ago, I started taking my contacts out before going to sleep. I have had some anxiety/stress and sinus problems the past several months (runs in our family apparently) although I haven't been to a doctor for it yet (I have an appointment in a few days). It kind of also feels as if air is escaping through my cornea or something. It feels odd, kind of tickles, but doesn't particularly hurt. It kind of feels relieving, as if pressure built up behind my eye or something is being released. But it still is kind of annoying to have the ticking. It's been going on the past couple days. I also do a lot of computer work, which may be a factor. Eyes kind of feel strained. Also, sometimes when I wake up in the morning I rub my eyes and my left eye makes a "squishy" noise when I rub it. Kind of odd. Any idea whats causing this?

No, keep your appointment. Be sure you see a physician (Ophthalmologist or Eye MD) to maximize your chance of getting a proper diagnosis and treatment.  And wear your contact lens properly. We have taken care of some eyes blinded by improper contact lens wear in just the last 6-12 months.

Thanks for the reply. Any explaination as to what this may be? The only times I had vision symptoms was when I had "blurred vision" when I wore my contacts too long (they got dry). I just put in a fresh pair today, can see fine, except for the minor "ticking". Also, I haven't got much sleep in the past few days either, combined with stress, etc. I'm also only 19, and my prescription is -5 which I suppose isn't bad. Still see great with this prescription and its been over a year since I was prescribed this strength. Can my eye doctor (the kind that prescribes contacts, etc) notice if anything is wrong? Could this be stress related? The doctor I am seeing on Monday is an internal medicine doctor, and I have a routine yearly eye appointment in about a week.

Sounds like your 'eye doctor' is an optometrist. If he/she doesn't find a cause and a cure, as I said see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Your symptoms are so unsual that I would be speculating on a cause and that's something I won't do.

Thanks. I'll see what my internist says (if he feels it necessary he can direct me to a real eye doctor). I'm really not too worried, I think this is may be my cornea reacting to getting a breath of fresh air. When you say "blinded" what do you mean? Temporary or permanent? Sorry, will be my last question.

Update

I took out my contact lenses for about an hour and a half, went to bed for around 12 hours, woke up, and no more ticking sound. Also, the ticking feeling was greatly reduced when I took my contacts out. I also saw halos around street lights at night, which probably meant my corneas were swollen. I'll still be going to an optometrist in a week, so he can check the basics (eye pressure, etc). I don't think my symptoms ar ae enough to go to a true eye doctor. Also, I am only 19, I don't think there is too huge of a chance of something serious going wrong in my eyes yet. My dad said he too had the same problems (halos around lights, kind of foggy vision) when he wore his contacts too long, as wells sleeping in them. He now wears his glasses most of the time. I guess he doesn't like dealing with contacts.
