To MJK MD-low vision

So sorry to hear about our dad, and  glad that you developed a positive approach just in case .  I understand why poor vision brought him down and  if not for My new Doc and a Phychologist
I would be lost. I am using low vision aids and  places like   Maxiaids.com have many products avilable to assist. I think all Doctors should look through 4X mag glasses and dark lenses to understand that they do work but at times are restricting  and in my case offer a solution for certain periods of time ( for me about an hour or so )  I am currently using large monitor and large fonts to function very well on the computer , but again for a limited time .
I am extremely gratefull to the skilled doctors who have stabilized my vision loss and given me a quality of life the blind do no have.
I have also ran into doctors that were insensative, disinterested, in  restrictions- and discomfort  some  comments were  "  find your sweet spot and focus there "  " you do show ??? but its really  is not that bad "  " If it burns and hurts take more drops and advil "
My new Doctor found and is treating -Rosecea- Chronic Conjuntivitis- Kerititis Sicca  and I am doing much better--.
The real problem is too many doctors do not have the time or desire to get involved with the social issues -
FMLA-- Disability .  They do not want to get involved with  paperwork to pull drivers license-just tell you not to drive. Tell you you can't do certan tasks but not be willing to do paperwork to explain why.  I am fortunate that I have the resources to survive-but have ran into several eye patients who do not and their doctors do little or nothing to assist.
It makes me sad to read some posts on support sites-- I know what they are going through

There just aren't enough dedicated Docs to go around and Fed Disability laws do not understand
sight limitations at all . I could do my job with many of the ailments  considered as disabling -but could not do with poor vision .

I agree with everthing you say. You know it takes about 5-10 longer to fill out some of these disability forms than to take care of a patient.  In general most doctors are trained and equipped to take care of patients.  It's hard for us to sit down and do hours of paperwork.  But I guess - we need to think about it as actually part of taking care of the patients - don't we.
