Toxoplasmosis scarring on retina

I was unfortunate enough to be born before many people knew about toxoplasmosis caused by cats(more specific, their litter boxes). So, I have scarring on my left and right eye. It missed my left retina by a mm..I was lucky in that respect.

But my right eye, my right eye has half of the retina covered by a scar. I can see out of it, and I can see LARGE letters, but my vision is around 20/200, far from even average vision to say the least.  I was curious if there are any surgeries that would repair or remove the scarring on the back of my right eye's retina?.

Also, since my right eye obviously isnt being used together with my left eye..would muscle tigthening help to better align my right eye? It's weaker than my left and sometimes when I'm tired, or been awake for a while - it causes me to see double..It's actually pretty anooying and my vision would be a ton better in general if my eyes were aligned and moved together.

By the way, I'm 22.

Hi, I actually also have a toxoplasmosis related scar on my left eye. I realize this is years after you posted this, but I had to say that my left eye was lazy and I experienced a lot of double vision. I had the muscles on either side tied to straighten it. The recovery was about a month, but very worth it. Not only was I more confident, but my headaches and double vision lessened. I also stopped being as clumsy! I hope since 2008 you have gotten some other good advice. I just had to share--I highly recommend a muscle straightening surgery to anyone considering it. It really changed my life.

It's fun but I have the exact same identical problem as you it miss my left eye by a mm. If always dreamed about being in the military and becoming a law enforcement officer. I have everything it takes to become a great officer but Vision is holding me back. Now I have to get job where 20/200 vision is not a problem but I keep dreaming my dream. I how stem cell or nanotechnology will help my dream come true <=-/

No radiation is being experimentally with new choroidal neovascularization but it does not remove established scar.

I don't think eye muscle surgery to straighten the eye would be called dangerous. There are risks but relatively small as eye surgery goes.

THanks for the advice, I pretty much figured that was the case..Waiting on stem cells or nanotech :).

Would eye muscle surgery be dangerous due to my right eyes condition? I read online that it's relatively safe and not that invasive, but there are risks in every surgery.

1. No surgery is available. None is likely soon. Down the line: stem cells, nanotechnology, bioelectronic retinas may help you.
2. Eye muscle surgery will not make the eye see better only improve the appearance of the misaligned eye.
3. Best bet protect the vision you have from injury and disease. See an Eye MD yearly. Wear protective eyewear.
