Trochleitis

My wife has idiopathic trochleitis. Both a neurologist and opthamalogist concur it is isolated and unrelated to something "deeper" for no better terms. She went thru an entire battery of blood tests, MRI etc. Consequently they injected her with steroids " I believe Methotrexate" She has gotten some relief from the steroids but pain still persists,

Do you have any other avenues she may consider for treatment with her MD?
Could she be dealing with something Hormonal as the ocular pain did occur around time of Peri Menopause?
Could the pain be related to migraine as the occular pain is in both eye orbits equally.

Thank you

Hi AuntieM2,
I believe I may have written to you before.  I (finally) got an appointment at the Univ of Michigan with Dr. Cooper. I was on the wait list for like 7 months!  He is also suggesting Primary Trochlear Headache as a suggestion for my pain.  I'm going back on July 24th to get an injection of a numbing agent and clonodine.  I live in the metro Detroit area by the way.  Would love to keep in touch about our progress.  My email address is:  ***@****
Thanks, Jill

Sorry for your wife's pain.  I have been diagnosed with trochleitis also and have wondered about hormonal involvement--maybe Dr Hagan could address that question?

I have tried a lot of medications and steroid treatments. Steroids did seem to alleviate the pain some. The treatment that has given me the most relief so far is injections of lidocaine and a steroid given at University of Michigan Pain Center.  I also had botox injections that helped alot but are very expensive.
