UV LIGHT PROTECTION

UV LIGHT PROTECTION

If one has a non-filtering intraocular lens and works long hours at the computer, I am correct to assume dime store readers do not have UV protection and it is advisable to get prescription glasses with UV filtration to protect the retina, especially if one has cystoid macular edema?

I really don't relate uv light to cystoid macular edema too much.  It is possible that some dime store readers might have some uv protection but it would need to be measured by an optician.  Your safest bet is to have prescription readers with uv protection.  It is usually the distance glasses that need the uv protection though, because you use them indoors and outdoors.  Indoors, when you read, you really don't get much uv exposore - same reason you can't get a tan indoors unless you have a tanning bed.
In the end uv protection in your glasses is definitely a good idea though when you are outdoors.
