Under eye rash

My daughter has a rash under her eye that looks like a bruise but redder.  I took her to our eye dr. and he said he thinks its just a reaction to something she may have touched.  It's been two days since then and she still has it.  It goes down a little then comes back.

Any thoughts???

Dear Moira,

It must have looked like a contact dermatitis skin allergy. If it is that, there are many possibilities of what she may have come in contact with that she is sensitive to. Contact dermatitis almost always itches fairly much and looks like a hive. Plant oils can be common offenders. If the surface of the skin is intact and not raw, try some hydrocortisone cream 1% on it three times a day for 3 to 5 days and see if it gets better. If not, have a dermatologist look at it.
