Have you checked on the narrow angle closure glaucoma, to make sure you are not susceptible to this, as Dr. Feldman says.
I am very sorry about your condition.
Hi Dr. Feldman,
Thank you for your response!
My deafness is from a combonation of an astrocytoma (left side) and Meniere's disease and a Superior Canal Dehiscence in the right ear. They are definately not related. I have 2 neuro-ophthalmologists and no one can figure anything out. The biggest problem is that I am in Louisiana and the tests I need are not done here and Medicaid refuses to send me out of state. However, my latest neuro-ophthalmologist knew of a non profit clinic that does genetic testing, which all 4 of my specialists think I have some variety of. I am being tested for Best's, Stargardt's(sp?) and Sorbets (sp?). They are also considering North Carolina Dysrtrophy. I've been blind for 3 years now and may finally get some anyswers!
Yes, the drops do help. Before the drops I had to wear dark glasses and keep my eyes closed because the smallest anount of light hurt. For a while the drops got rid of the pain completely. But after a few weekd I needed thr glasses, too, more and more. The drops still help, but not much now and I can't get my dpctor to call my husband back nor get an appointment. So I thought I'd seek answers elsewhere until he did. Thank you again.
Dear deafblind,
I would definitely recommend that you seek the care of a neuro-ophthalmologist to determine the cause of your sight and hearing impairments. Are they linked or not? IF they are, what condition do you have that is causing eye pain. Are the drops helping or not? Dilating drops can provoke an attack of narrow angle closure glaucoma in susceptible individuals. You do need to make sure you do not have this while being treated with these drops.
