Using progressive glasses with Restor IOL??

Using progressive glasses with Restor IOL??

ast year I had a Restor IOL implanted for a cataract.  A few months later I experienced a retinal detachment and had a scleral buckle installed on that eye. The detachment was at the extreme periphery and my central vision was not effected.

Now that the eye has finally settled-down I have ended-up with glasses with progressive lenses and find it impossible to read.  I seem to have just a narrow band of clear vision in the progressive lens for anything close enough to read.  Letters on a newspaper page seem to fade in a out of focus while I am constantly jockeying my head up and down to find the one spot on the lenses where I can read them.

I had progressives for years prior to the cataract surgery so I'm used to them.  But the pairing of the Restor lens and a progressive glasses seems to not work.

Does anyone had any experience in this area?

Try a contact lens and see if that helps.  If so, you can consider PRK or LASIK.

Dr Oyakawa,

Thanks for your response, but additional surgery is not the route I want to persue as I am a steroid responder.  IOP spiked at 39mm Hg while tapering prednisolone post retinal detachment.  Azopt and alphagan-P were required to bring it under control.

My basic question is can a Restor IOL and progressive lens play well together?  Or is this combination doomed to dog me forever?
