I'm a 58 years old. In March of 2006 I was told that I was a good candidate for Lasik eye surgery. I was very far sighted, have astigmatism and have had a lazy eye since birth but, when I would wear contacts or glasses, they would hold my lazy eye straight. I was assured that after Lasik surgery my lazy eye would be straight without contacts or glasses. The surgery was performed in March of 2006 and an enhancement done in August 2006. Not only has my eyesight continued to worsen - contact lenses don’t hold my lazy eye straight and the doctors have been unable to prescribe glasses that I can see with.
I've now been to 7 very reputable Opthamologists and have been told by all that I was never a good candidate for Lasik surgery and that there is nothing that they can do for my lazy eye nor were they able to fit me with contact lenses that I could see with. I finally found a doctor that prescribed Synergeyes contact lenses and I've been wearing them for several months. Unfortunately this doctor was unable to prescribe glasses that I could see with. I went to another doctor for glasses and he told me that the Synergeyes lenses are scratching my cornea and wants to fit me with custom gas permeable lenses. He also gave me a prescription for glasses and told me that they might give me good enough eyesight for me to be able to pass a driving test.
This whole situation has gotten quite expensive and I’m finding it difficult to live not only without being able to see without contacts but also with this lazy eye. I would consider traveling anywhere (almost) if I could be assured that there was a doctor I could trust to tell me exactly what damage has been done to my eyes and if there is hope for my eyes or if I should give up.
Thank you for any advice you can give!!
