Vision with silicone oil

After a detached retina, I had silicone oil put in since previous surgeries did not hold the retina in place. I am not sure what type or quality of vision I can expect with this oil in place. The surgery was 5 days ago, but I do not really know what kind of progress I can expect. Please advise.

These procedures are all unique and impossible to generalize about, not at all like routine cataract surgery. you will need to ask your surgeon. best of luck

I am having my 4th retina surgery 2nd time with oil due to redetatchment in 5 months. This time the oil will stay in several months. I know I won't be able to bend over or lift over 20 lbs. My job requires me to do that  so how long before it's safe to do so?

You should dilate the one that is good!

Happy day after the 4th of July!
Does having your eye dilated once a month or so hurt the eye?  One eye had RD, other did not.  Doc dilates both eyes each visit.  Should I ask him to stop the one that is good?

A retinal detachment is worse but almost all retinal detachments are caused by retinal tears or holes (rhegmatogenous RD).

Best situation is retinal tear without RD, then retinal tear can be repaired wth laser or freezing and not have to do scleral buckle.

Since everyone is different silicone oil will impact vision differently. The one constant is that people do not have their best vision w/ an oil retained eye. However, the main goal is to make sure the retina stays attached so that in the future the best vision can be reached. With time your vision should improve.
Make sure you talk w/ your doctor as s/he will be able to provide you w/ more information.
Good Luck.
