Vision worse with glasses

Vision worse with glasses

My first child at age 4 developed strabismus and amblyopia, she also has astigmatism, when she got her glasses she could see better through them and always put them on first thing when she when woke up, never had a problem.

My second child who is 5, just started developing symptoms of strabismus, her eye slightly turning when she is tired. I took her to a Pediatric Opthamologist who diagnosed her with being "far-sighted" and astigmatism, she said her eye was turning, and prescribed glasses. She is a new Dr. and was talking to me in "plain terms".  So we got her glasses and she cant see through them very well, she says the TV is blurry from the couch, she is reading small books, and she is now straining to make out the letters. I thought that glasses would make you see better, and when I called to ask about it, I was told "she will get used to them, and was told to pick up a prescritption to dialate her eyes to make her have to use the new glasses. Is this normal, to have to" get used" to glasses, or do I need to take her somewhere else?

Farsighted glasses in children often take 2-4 weeks to get use to and often blur the vision when first worn. It's important to persist in making the child wear them as directed.
