Vitrectomy-Macular Pucker

Still researching everything I can about this upcoming (if I ever get the nerve) Vitrectomy/Macular peel for my recently discovered macular pucker in left eye.  Left eye progressed rather aggressively (past 6 or so months?) with severe scar tissue covering my macula.  Results are 20/200 vision non-correctable with lens and blurred out spots with depth perception type symptoms (eyes not working together as well when walking and looking forward).
Question:
Pros and Cons of both ?
General anesthesia or Local ?   I don't think I can go thru with the surgery with Local, but I've read conflicting info:
1) With "general", does the Dr. still do an eye numbing injection thus risking possible other eye issues?
2) With "general", does one risk REM during surgery ?  Does one risk coughing or vomiting after surgery, thus increasing the risk of eye pressure ?

I've asked my Dr. so many questions already that I'm trying to do my own research on this one to be prepared for the fast decision I'll have to make in the surgery room.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME DETAILED FACTS ON THIS DECISION???
P.S.  Should I go thru with the surgery or leave well enough alone ?

I had 2 surgeries with local anesthesia and experienced no pain at all.  IV sedation was used for administering the local.  You could have IV sedation throughout the procedure if you wanted.  This alternative is much safer than general anesthesia, and your recovery will be SO much easier.  In my geographic area, general anestheisa is only used with children and uncooperative patients.  I would never go with this option if something else were possible.

1) An injection is not needed if done under general.

2) No, yes, but anesthesia is very good and this is not a problem.  I had two ERM peels under general (I had double vision as a complication of the injection.

You need to have the surgery.
