Honestly it depends on what you are having the surgery for.  Regardless, There is a very small risk of infection, a fairly high risk you will develop a cataract in a year or two, a low risk of worsended vision, a variable chance that the vision will not improve.  Your question would be better asked "What is the risk of vitrectomy surgery for ______ condition that I have?
Sometimes vitrectomy is really a necessity as in serious diabetic retinopathy or endophthalmitis and other times it is totally elective as in a macular peel.
