Vitreous detachment

Vitreous detachment

hello,

I have been experiencing vitreous detachment since early December. i am 48 years old and have recently been twice for an examination of my retina. The doctor found no tears in the retina. I see transparent floaters and light flashes at the periphery. Initially, i would only see the flashes in a darkened room when looking over my right shoulder.

Since my last examination, I get the feeling that I may be seeing the flashes also in normal daylight. I am not sure because they are at the periphery of my vision. I am concerned that this may indicate that a tear has occurred in my retina. Is this a correct conclusion to come to or am I worrying too much ?

I have a further eye examination scheduled for April 27th.

Will the flashes stop ? How long does this take on average ?

Thank you.

Flashes signify continued vitreous traction.  I have had some patient who took up to a year for the flashes to resolve.

If flashes are increasing you should see your doctor soon.
