Vytrectomy eye surgery complications

I had vytrectomy eye surgery in July 2008 to correct a macular hole.  I had gas injected to assist in the closure of the hole.  I maintained a face down position for 4 weeks.  The surgeon has advised me that the hole is closed and therefore the surgery was successful.  I then had cataract surgery in the same eye in the middle of November 2008 to remove a cataract that had formed.  I now supposedly have 20/60 vision in the eye that was operated on.  My previous vision was 20/20.  I do not see well in this eye.  I have no close vision at all.  My distant vision is measued at 20/60 but I have a great deal of difficulty seeing.  Please advise if there is something else that can be done to improve my vision.

Thank you.

Even if a macular hole is closed it usually does not restore normal vision and the most likely cause of your reduced vision is damage to the macular from the hole that the closure could not repair.

See another Eye MD for a second opininion. Or have your retina surgeon give you an opinion why the cataract operation did not retore normal vision.
