Waking up with dilated pupils.

Waking up with dilated pupils.

Something strange is going on. Sometimes I fall asleep with the lights on. One time when I got up to turn off the lights, I looked in the mirror and noticed my pupils were super dilated. This happens every time I fall asleep with the lights on. Is this normal? What could be causing this?

Next time avoid sleeping with lights on, particularity light source in front of your eyes.

You are not at all going to hurt your eyes sleeping with the lights on. If it bothers you turn the light off.

So there is nothing strange about my pupils getting huge then? Is this supposed to happen? My girlfriend fell asleep with the lights on and when she woke up, her pupils were fine.

Some people have big bouncy pupils especially young people.  You can and probably should go in to see an Eye MD. Find one near you at www.aao.org

I have recently seen an eye doctor. He was checking my eyes for detached retina. The doctor said I was ok. I forgot to tell him about my pupil situation. Do you think he would have found something during the examination? He dilated both my pupils and looked around and behind the eyes etc...

Thanks again for your help.
