Weight Lifting - Post Retinal Detachment

Hello,

I had surgery 30 days ago for a retinal tear/detachment which resulted in a vitrectomy and the placement of the gas bubble.  The gas bubble has receeded to about 30 percent and my retina surgeon indicates that it will take about 60 days before the bubble is totally observed.  Vision has returned to the non-bubble area but is a bit fuzzy due to the continued dilation (cyclogyl).

My retina surgeon indicates that I should be able to resume my gym weight lifting after the surgery site has fully healed.  I really enjoy lifting, but am a bit nervous about taking any chances after this major surgery..  I was wondering if anyone is aware of any focused studies relating to post retinal tear recurrence in individuals who lift heavy weights in the gym.

Thank you for any information.

Hi!
Did you go back to the gym? How's your eye doing now? Since I have the same problem as you. And I'm advised to stay away from high impact sports or weights lifting.

Thank you Dr.O.- I appreciate the info and look forward to this eye healing.   I am experiencing some "warppage" of what I can see in the upper half of the eye already and hope that will clear up when the swelling is all gone.!
