What can cause sudden center visual impairment in a healthy eye?

Woke up with extremely limited vision in one eye. I visited an eye doctor to find that my eye is perfect and there is no explanation for the central vision blindness. I have peripheral vision that is blurry but present. I went to the ER and got a CT scan and blood work done. They could not find an explanation for my condition. I have no insurance and I'm finding it hard for someone to do a MRI for me without payment up front. Could this be serious? What could cause sudden blindness ( about 80%) if it is not a problem physically with the eye?

This is VERY serious. You need to be under the care of an Eye MD ophthalmologist. If the inside of the eye is perfectly normal the most common cause is "retrobulbar neuritis". The diagnosis is timeconsuming and expensive.

You may also need to see a neuroophthalmologist.
