What could it be?

At the age of 28in 2004 I suddenly started having severe exotropia of both eyes. One would look forward while the other would swing outward. I have alternating exotropia. At that point my optometrist (MD) performed muscle surgery due to the double vision I was having and it seemed to correct the problem. No further testing was done. December of 2011 I went for a check up with a new optometrist (also an MD) because the exotropia had returned worse this time. She did many test (glaucoma, field of vision, tomography?) My field of vision was abnormal and my optic nerve was thinning she stated, I also have a large cup/disc ratio. She refers me to a MD at the WV Eye Institute who specializes in Strabismus. Upon his exam, he finds Nystagmus, glaucoma, hypertropia and exotropia. He refers me to his collegue who is a neurophthamologist. He orders MRI's of my brain and orbits along with several blood test. All of my blood work came back normal. My MRI's were normal with the exception of a  Incidental note made of a prominent fluid signal structure which likely represents a prominent perivascular space in the left cerebral peduncle. He then does a field vision test and it comes back slightly abnormal so he schedules me for a follow up appt with him and also refers me to ANOTHER of his collegues who is a glaucoma specialist. I have these appts the end of April. I feel like I'm getting the run around. All I wanted from the get go is for them to correct my exotropia so I can see straight! What could all this be?
