An acutre horseshoe tear (symptoms-flashes and floater) have a 35% chance of retinal detachment.  An asymptomatic horseshoe tear has a much lower chance of a retinal detachment ( I do not treat these).  Laser has  a  5% chance of complications-mainly epiretinal membrane formation and retinal detachment.
