What is this bubble on my four year old's eye?

My for year old has had a bubble that sort of looks like a blister in the white part of his left eye for over a year now and the things I've been able to find on the internet say, for the most part, that it's harmless and will go away on is own. I'm afraid that since it's clearly not going away and he's so young, that it may start causing damage as he grows. Does anyone know what it could be and if I need to take him to an opthalmologist?

If you child is 4 he needs a check up anyway to be sure eyes straight and especially one eye not amblyopic. That occurs in about one in 50 children. They eyes can look straight and the child can see well but one eye is doing all the work. Glasses and patching are necessary. Ask your pediatrician to refer you.

The blister is likely a benign, common conjunctival cyst.
